Organizational context: This internship is with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva. The Statistics Analysis Unit (STAT) within UNCTAD Statistics Service compiles and disseminates data on trade, investment, global macroeconomy, and sustainable development. The intern will be part of this service, gaining experience in statistical analysis and dissemination.
Job purpose: The purpose of this internship is to provide practical experience in statistical analysis and dissemination within UNCTAD. The intern will support research and data compilation related to international trade, services, digital trade, gender, and sustainable development. This role contributes to UNCTAD's statistical work by assisting in data collection, validation, analysis, and the preparation of various project documents and reports. The intern will also support the development of statistical information systems and contribute to communication and knowledge-sharing activities, gaining valuable insights into the UN's development programmes.
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a university degree program (Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D.) in economics, political science, international relations, development studies, gender studies, or a related field. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable. No professional work experience is required.
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field and demonstrated interest in international development and the work of the UN are expected. Familiarity with quantitative data analysis tools is also beneficial.
