Zusammenfassung

CERN seeks a dedicated applied physicist/computing specialist to develop and deploy beam optimisation and ML tools for the accelerator complex. You will work with physicists, operators and software developers to translate expert methods into robust operational solutions enabling high-intensity beam performance.

The role involves testing and deploying tools, data-driven tuning, and documentation, with hybrid work arrangements and a 40-hour week.

Qualifikationen

  • Experience in scientific programming and data analysis (preferably Python).
  • Familiarity with numerical methods, optimisation techniques, or ML approaches is a plus.
  • Interest in particle accelerators, beam physics, control systems or large scientific facilities.
  • Experience with scientific software, simulations, or experimental data.
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git).
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

Aufgaben

  • Contribute to development and improvement of beam optimisation software for accelerators.
  • Analyse operational data to identify beam performance improvements.
  • Test, validate and deploy optimisation and ML tools in an operational environment.
  • Develop automated procedures for accelerator setup, tuning, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with physicists, operators and software developers to implement needs.
