Job summary

Farmington R-VII School District is seeking an Athletics/Coaching professional to supervise and coach student athletes, promoting athletic excellence and strong citizenship. Experience with track and field is preferred and a valid Missouri teaching certificate or coaching authorization is required.

The role requires reliable supervision during practices and games, weekend/evening availability for summer activities, and adherence to district and MSHA rules.

Qualifications

• Missouri Teaching Certificate OR MSHSAA Coaching Authorization/Certificate.
• HS/college track & field experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach, and instruct student athletes on rules, equipment, training, techniques, and strategies.
• Observe players during games and practices to identify improvement needs and assign positions/techniques.
• Plan practice sessions, drills, and development for individuals and teams.
• Maintain proper supervision and behavior of student athletes at all times.
• Encourage academics and citizenship among student athletes.
• Model and teach sportsmanship and character development.
• Record daily attendance for a specific group of athletes.
• Assist in summer activities and be available nights/weekends.
• Ensure supervision during all team activities (practices, games, weight room, bus rides).
• Follow injury procedures and administer basic first aid when needed.
• Respond to risk and emergency situations and notify responders when appropriate.
• Maintain relationships with school admins, parents, students, and coaches.
• Follow MSHA/ District regulations and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.
• Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Investigate complaints and report violations promptly.

Education and Experience:

• High school or collegiate track and field competing or coaching experience preferred

Essential Job Functions :

• Supervise, coach, and instruct student athletes, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, training, techniques, and strategies of the sport.
• Observes players during games, practices, and film study to:
  • determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Assesses player skills and give input in assigning team positions, techniques, and strategies.
• Follows a practice schedule, plans and coordinates drills, and utilizes practice time to provide both individual, group, and team development.
• Maintains standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Encourage student athletes to maintain a high academic and citizenship standard.
• Model, teach, and expect character development
• Record daily attendance of a specific group of athletes.
• Assist in summer activities and be willing to work nights and weekends.
• Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for students during all team activities, including practices, games, weight room, locker rooms, buses, etc.
• Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury and administer first aid when necessary.
• Respond to risk management/emergency situations and notify emergency responders when appropriate.
• Maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, students, and coaches.
• Follow MSHSAA and District regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.
• Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Immediately investigate complaints, respond to rule infractions, report serious violations of school rules or suspicious or unauthorized activities to school administrators.
