Job summary

Hero is building a group-wide AI Centre of Competence in Lenzburg. As AI Engineer, you will design the shared foundation for production-grade AI across the enterprise and move ideas into scalable solutions.

You will shape guardrails, model selection, and observability while collaborating with data teams to deliver secure, governed AI applications that create measurable business impact.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field.
• At least five years of software engineering experience, with two years building GenAI or LLM applications in production.
• Experience with agentic frameworks and the Model Context Protocol.
• Proficiency in Python; knowledge of TypeScript or C# is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve Hero’s Agentic AI Platform for agent orchestration, tool use, and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Create the MCP Gateway as the governed entry point to data and tools; integrate with SAP S/4HANA, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint.
• Develop Hero’s AI Knowledge Base on Azure with ingestion pipelines, embeddings, and hybrid retrieval.
• Establish an observability layer to track quality, latency, costs, and compliance with EU AI Act, GDPR, and related standards.

You will design the shared foundation on which Hero’s AI use cases run, from our Agentic AI Platform and governed access layer to our knowledge base and observability capabilities. What You’ll Achieve

Build the Engine for Enterprise AI

• You will design, build, and continuously evolve Hero’s Agentic AI Platform, creating reusable capabilities for agent orchestration, tool use, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt and agent management, and model selection. You will take solutions from proof of concept to MVP and scale, supported by CI/CD and LLMOps practices.

Open Secure Pathways to the Business

• You will create the MCP Gateway as the governed AI entry point to enterprise data and tools. You will shape its tool registry, authorization model, execution proxy, and audit stream while integrating AI solutions with systems such as SAP S/4HANA, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint.

Turn Hero Knowledge into Intelligence

• You will build Hero’s AI Knowledge Base on Azure, developing ingestion pipelines, chunking, embeddings, hybrid retrieval, and permission-aware filtering. Working closely with data teams, you will connect AI solutions to governed Snowflake data and help encode Hero’s business language through semantic layers and enterprise ontology.

Make Every AI Solution Visible and Accountable

• You will establish an observability layer that tracks agent and model quality, latency, failures, costs, usage, and guardrail events. Your technical evidence and audit trails will support value tracking, budget steering, governance, and compliance with requirements including the EU AI Act, GDPR, nFADP, and an ISO 42001-based AI management system.

Turn Priority Use Cases into Products

• You will partner with the AI Use Case Manager and business owners to develop proofs of concept and MVPs that solve meaningful business challenges. You will reuse platform components wherever possible, move quickly from opportunity to value, and ensure solutions are built to last.

Who You Are

Production-Minded AI Builder

• You bring a degree in computer science, software engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field.
• You have at least five years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of two years building GenAI or LLM applications that operate in production.

Agentic AI Architect

• You have hands-on experience with agentic frameworks and the Model Context Protocol.
• You understand how to build reusable platforms that combine agent orchestration, RAG, tool use, model selection, evaluation, and prompt engineering.[GM2.1]

Cloud and Data Craftsperson

• You are confident working with Python, while experience with TypeScript or C# is an advantage.
• You bring practical knowledge of Microsoft Azure technologies including AI Foundry, AI Search, API Management, ADLS Gen2, and Entra ID. Experience with AWS Bedrock is a plus.
• You are comfortable with Snowflake, SQL, and dbt, and understand semantic layers and knowledge graphs.

DevOps and Observability Champion

• You know how to package and operate production-grade solutions using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD through GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• You have experience monitoring production systems and understand how evaluation, tracing, logging, cost metering, and auditability contribute to reliable AI.
