Job summary

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, seeks operators to run the accelerator complex from the CERN Control Centre. You will join the 24/7 shift team to ensure beam delivery and performance, and you will help develop tools to support operation.

Responsibilities include operating accelerators, collaborating with physicists, and contributing to automation and software development for reliability and efficiency. On-site work with potential for extended shifts.

Qualifications

  • Initial work experience in a technical or scientific environment.
  • Experience in physics, engineering or computing.
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering in a modern development language environment.
  • Familiarity with automation concepts and techniques to improve operations.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to improvements.
  • Experience operating large facilities and related hardware is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in a 24/7 shift team running CERN's accelerator complex.
  • Operate proton and ion accelerators and beam lines to experimental facilities.
  • Work with accelerator physicists to optimise operation and document scenarios.
  • Develop applications and advanced tools for operation support.
  • Assist infrastructure teams with CERN equipment during non-operational periods.
