What will be your daily pursuit?

As an Ice Odyssey Driver Guide, you will contribute to making the Columbia Icefield Odyssey tour as memorable, entertaining, and informative as possible for guests visiting from around the globe. You will be responsible for safely operating various types of coach buses and our unique off-road vehicles (Sherp and Ark) while delivering high-quality interpretive tour content both while operating the vehicle and outside the vehicle on the glacier.

What will you do in this job?

  1. Providing guests with a high-quality interpretative tour experience around the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Glacier.
  2. Coordinating guest arrival and while on tour to ensure they have the adventure of a lifetime.
  3. Mechanical pre-trip/post-trip of assigned Coach, Ice Explorer and/or Sherp.
  4. Responsible for the safe and proper operation, care and upkeep of your daily assigned Coach/Ice Explorer/Sherp throughout the operating day.
  5. Daily servicing/cleaning of the interior and exterior of assigned Coach/Ice Explorer/Sherp and assisting as required for exterior cleaning.
  6. Ensuring all windows are kept clear and clean throughout the operating day.
  7. Avoiding both physical and mechanical damage to the equipment.
  8. Ensuring passengers are not in areas where vehicles are moving and properly seated during the tour.
  9. Responsible for safely loading and unloading passengers on your vehicle and being at the vehicle entrance at all times when passengers are loading/unloading.
  10. Rotating cleaning schedule of the Transfer Bay area’s, including washroom area and garbage clean up.
  11. Supporting colleagues and loading staff with additional interpretive information, managing tour groups, tour departures and arrivals, and the loading and unloading of Coaches/Ice Explorer/Sherp.
  12. Communicate with co-workers and management, forwarding observations and comments in a timely fashion.
  13. Uphold the high standard of environmental stewardship expected for all employees.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

What skills and experience do you need for this job?

  1. Experience driving a manual transmission: required.
  2. Tour guiding experience/ACMG/IGA: highly recommended.
  3. Safety first minded and motivated to be a steward of the National Park.
  4. Organization and time management skills are a must, but a passion for making a difference for each guest and employee is the most critical aspect of this position!
  5. Guest service-oriented mindset and a passion for delivering memorable experiences.
  6. Ability to think on the fly and outside the box to solve problems with a positive attitude.
  7. Fluent and articulate in English, able to communicate and comprehend over two-way radio, required; Second language, an asset.
  8. Must be capable of manual duties (bend, stoop, squat and stretch), required.
  9. Must enjoy working outdoors, even in challenging mountain weather conditions.
  10. A fantastic sense of humor as well as a friendly, mature, energetic personality.
  11. Commitment to become an interpretive expert and ambassador through the completion of an interpretive training program (provided upon starting employment).
  12. Mature, energetic, dependable, and self-motivated.
  13. Enjoy working with a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  14. Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods in an outdoor environment. Be prepared for all types of weather (Snow, Rain, Wind, Hail) at all times.
  15. Must meet the Organization grooming and appearance standards.

  17. Standard First-Aid or higher an asset.
