Job summary

A municipal government is seeking an Inclusion Facilitator for a seasonal role to provide one-to-one support for participants with disabilities during a city-wide day camp program. Ideal candidates will have experience in recreation settings and working with children with disabilities. The role involves ensuring safety, communicating effectively with staff, and providing necessary accommodations. Competitive hourly rate offered, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a recreation setting.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities.
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR B Certificate required.
  • Working towards Secondary School Graduation Diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to program participants with disabilities.
  • Ensure safety and inclusion in program activities.

Job Summary

Provide one-to-one support to program participants with disabilities in programs. Staff will be required to support the delivery of a comprehensive, inclusive city‑wide day camp program as developed by the Recreation Division. A responsibility to ensure the program meets the needs of all participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement Recreation Plan as outlined which communicates the participant’s needs to staff members and monitor participants progress in program
  • Support front‑line staff with appropriate modifications and accommodations as necessary
  • Evaluate needs of participant in program and make accommodations and modifications for safe and inclusive participation
  • Communicate all information regarding participant progress and program struggles and successes to supervisor designate
  • Provide on‑going support, assistance and direction to families, staff and volunteers in regards inclusion principles by providing information and resources regarding inclusion to assigned participant
  • Prioritize issues and problem‑solve as required
  • Maintain open and honest communication with camp leader and on‑site staff while maintaining confidentiality where appropriate
  • Provide a response to all customer enquiries both internal and external
  • Greet participant at designated location each morning
  • Debrief with parents each morning and at the end of each day regarding any important information
  • Provide support to participant for a continuous 8‑hour day (paid lunch) including basic personal care as required (i.e. bathroom, changing or feeding needs)
  • Provide on‑going supervising to participant to ensure safety and inclusion
  • Implement High Five principles
  • Support Program Leaders by being a resource regarding inclusion and diversity issues to maximize participant involvement
  • Maintain open communication with staff and supervisors regarding participants and their experience
  • Track attendance of program participants and acquire feedback on each participant’s recreation plan which enables improved service
Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience in a recreation setting
  • Experience working with children with disabilities
  • Level 3 — Vulnerable Sector screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga is required
  • Working towards Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR B Certificate
  • Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification
  • Light lifting required
  • Primarily community centre environment

Hourly Rate/Salary: 18.23 - 21.71
Grade: PB
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Work Location: Living Arts Centre
