Job summary

A local government body in Ontario seeks a Parks and Facilities Maintenance Floater to provide operational and maintenance services for recreational facilities. Responsibilities include maintenance of buildings, ice surface care, and various preventative tasks. The ideal candidate has a Grade 12 education, relevant experience, and a valid Ontario driver’s license. This is a temporary full-time position with a salary of $27.76 - $34.66 per hour, operational from now until approximately December 22, 2025.

  • Provide operational and maintenance services to recreational facilities.
  • Maintain buildings in good repair and clean condition.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs of municipal facilities.
  • Follow maintenance and repair standards and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assist with cemetery operations and maintenance.

Skills

Willingness to work various hours including days, evenings, weekends and holidays
Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Computer expertise in Microsoft Office
Awareness of safe work practices

Education

Grade 12 or GED equivalent
Basic Arena Refrigeration certification (asset)

Job description
Basic Function
  • To provide operational and maintenance services to Norfolk County recreational facilities including parks, pools, arenas, cemeteries, community centres and other corporate buildings
  • To maintain buildings and associated equipment in good repair and in attractive, clean condition for public service
Position Description
  • Building operations including; board/bench/glass repairs, cleaning, running program, set-up and tear down of recreation equipment, etc. and other tasks relating to hall rentals, washroom and other building maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out a variety of operational and maintenance tasks which change seasonally. Assists with the installation, removal and daily maintenance of ice surface in the arena. Performs daily maintenance of ice surface in the arena, including operation of ice resurfacer, ice edger machines, scraping/cutting/flooding ice, painting lines and document inspection of ice conditions
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs of arenas, libraries, museums, cemeteries, community centres and other municipal administration facilities
  • Follow generally accepted maintenance and repair standards, administrative policies and practices and the County’s program of preventative maintenance
  • Perform cleaning and operations in recreation facilities, ice maintenance in arenas and maintenance duties in parks and cemeteries (e.g., grass cutting, ball diamond grooming, tree and shrub maintenance, snow removal, etc.)
  • Perform a variety of preventative maintenance tasks and repairs in facilities, including monitoring of arena refrigeration equipment, minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and scheduled cleaning of equipment
  • Provide assistance in the moving, relocation and set up of administrative office equipment and supplies as required by other departments
  • Assist with the operations of the cemeteries, ensuring compliance with municipal and/or provincial policies, procedures, by‑laws
  • Completes initial grave site/foundation/niche preparation as well as performs final gravesite activities upon service completion
  • Operates/maneuvers backhoe into site and digs grave space to established standards within restricted space confines and with inches between grave spaces; dresses graves; levels site with compactor
  • Endeavour to provide safe facility maintenance procedures for all staff to follow in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety policies and modern building maintenance procedures
Knowledge and Experience
  • Successfully completed Grade 12 or GED equivalent
  • Basic Arena Refrigeration certified through Ontario Recreation Facilities Association considered an asset, or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Completion of NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator Course through Ontario Recreations Facilities Association considered an asset.
  • Over two years’ relevant experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Willingness to work various hours including days, evenings, weekend and holidays, as required.
  • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle including the ability to provide a drivers abstract when requested during the recruitment process
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
  • Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment
