Job description

We are looking to for an On-Call Early Childhood Educatorsto support children at our Daycare.

The On Call Early Childhood Educator is to provide a solid and safe foundation for the children which fosters their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, creative and very necessary cultural development as an individual and as a member of a group. It is important to value the contributions and needs of the parents and to work in partnership with them in providing care and education.

Education Program
  • Plan and prepare a quality program based on the centre’s philosophy
  • Plan, organize and lead daily activities designed to stimulate the intellectual, physical and emotional growth of children
  • Encourage cooperation and participation of all children in planned activities
  • Create a safe and secure environment
  • Liaise with co-workers and other professionals to meet the needs of the children
Child Guidance
  • Treat each child with dignity, respect, love, sensitivity and care
  • Use guidance techniques that are age-appropriate, fair, and encourage socially acceptable behaviour
  • Adhere to the B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Provide interaction with the children as a group and as required on an individual basis
Health and Safety
  • Observe for signs of ill health upon arrival and throughout the day
  • Monitor and record signs and symptoms of ill health and inform the Room Supervisor
  • Implement the scheduled housekeeping duties
  • Ensure hazardous materials and products are stored and locked in a safe place
  • Teach health and nutrition, rest habits and personal hygiene
  • Maintain hygiene practices
  • Follow the policy for administration of medication
  • Administer basic First Aid as required
  • Maintain constant supervision of indoor and outdoor play
Parent Liaison
  • Maintain a positive liaison with parents
  • Encourage open communication with parents concerning the needs and progress of their child
  • Respond to questions concerning policies
  • Contribute to the monthly parent newsletter
  • Participate in the planning and implementing of special events, workshops and meetings for parents
  • Act as a resource person
Additional
  • All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
  • Participate in community events as requested
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Early Childhood Educator Certification
  • Current First Aid Certificate as per Schedule C of the Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Experience working with children under the age of six
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset
  • Experience working with confidential information

Preference may be given to those having knowledge of the Okanagan culture and traditions.
