The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is an agency where innovation thrives, ideas flourish, and passion drives us to new heights of excellence. Reporting to the Ministry of the Attorney General, the AGCO is responsible for regulating Ontario's vibrant alcohol, gaming, horse racing, and private retail cannabis sectors in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest. Come join our growing team!

The Corporate Affairs, Governance and Agency Oversight Branch is looking for a collaborative and strategic professional to join our team as a Senior Advisor, Corporate Affairs. In this role, you will help move forward important corporate projects and initiatives that support the AGCO's mandate and government priorities. You will contribute research, analysis, and advice that inform policy development, strengthen government relations, and support effective issues management. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting positive change and fostering strong connections between the AGCO, government partners, and the public we serve.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic advice and analysis on complex policy and program issues to inform decision-making and support effective agency-government relations and issues management.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and environmental scans to identify trends, best practices, and emerging issues, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Develop and coordinate issues management strategies, including identifying subject matter experts, fostering relationships, and mobilizing teams to provide timely and effective advice.
  • Prepare concise and accurate briefing notes, presentations, reports, and sensitive communications material under tight deadlines to address high-profile or contentious issues.
  • Lead key components of broad corporate projects, including oversight of work packages, project teams, and critical initiatives such as mandatory training programs.
  • Support the implementation of government priorities by coordinating submissions, approvals, and responses to information requests in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide expertise in defining performance indicators and accountability metrics to monitor outcomes of divisional processes and corporate initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Several years of relevant experience in project management, program development, and/or public policy development, ideally in a public sector or regulatory setting.
  • Experience engaging with senior management, boards of directors, external stakeholders, and partners to provide advice, influence decisions, and support initiatives.
  • Experience managing complex and sensitive issues, including working across teams and liaising with senior leadership to resolve them effectively.
  • Experience leading the development of government submissions to seek approvals for programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Post-secondary education in public administration, political science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Professional degrees (e.g., public administration, law, business) or project management certifications are considered assets.
  • Knowledge of the alcohol and gaming sectors in Ontario, from both a regulatory and commercial perspective, and familiarity with relevant legislation and standards (e.g., Gaming Control Act, Liquor Licence Act, Liquor Control Act, Wine Content and Labeling Act), or the ability to quickly learn and apply this knowledge.
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and judgment skills, with awareness of organizational and political context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing briefing notes, reports, presentations, and sensitive communications material.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
