The Opportunity

We have a new opportunity within our Engineering Underwriting team for a Intermidiate Field Underwriter.

This role is central to our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our Branch and Broker Partners. By providing a personalized and proactive approach, you will help strengthen relationships and deliver a trusted broker experience.

As an Intermediate Field Underwriter, you will take ownership of risk decisions and ensure every interaction reflects confidence and professionalism. Building strong, collaborative relationships with Broker Partners will be critical to your success. You will deliver best‑in‑class underwriting service, balancing broker needs with corporate priorities to drive profitable growth and underwriting excellence.

What you’ll do

Direct Underwriter Support to Manager, Branch, Broker and MGAs:

  • Assess and evaluate risk on new and renewal business on complex cases for respected regions across Canada.
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience to rating underwriting and documentation.
  • Analyze reports to determine exposure and loss ratings.
  • Determine all risks to which insured may be exposed.
  • Apply loss control and risk management concepts.
  • Establish premium for assigned accounts.

Sales:

  • Maintain awareness of market trends, price levels and legal requirements.
  • Act as a leader in promoting team dynamics with the regional structure. Conduct broker visits in order to help the teams achieve production goals but to also recognize and develop mutually profitable opportunities.
  • Responsible for profitability and the Equipment breakdown line of business in assigned region.
  • Cross Border Facility. Broker and Branch visits promoting and training on the Cross‑Border facility for equipment breakdown.
  • Maintain awareness to Commercial lines retention and promote Equipment Breakdown accounts at renewal and vice versa.

Technical Support:

  • Co‑ordinate and provide coaching and mentoring skills to all commercial lines underwriters which will assist in developing and enhancing their ability to profitably grow and retain the book of business in that region.
  • Working with Junior Underwriter’s with assessing equipment breakdown risks and offer guidance.
