We are currently looking for an Electrical Stations Engineer. Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of electrical design for High Voltage / Medium Voltage substations for utility and industrial clients, working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet client requirements and applicable standards. This hybrid role is based out of our Vancouver, BC or Edmonton, AB offices.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Lead development of preliminary and detailed design drawings for HV and MV substations;
2. Perform and review electrical calculations and equipment sizing;
3. Design and review cable sizing and routing;
4. Prepare technical reports and equipment specifications;
5. Review manufacturers’ equipment drawings;
6. Design auxiliary systems, including single line diagrams, load calculations, and battery sizing;
7. Develop proposals with schedules and cost estimates;
8. Produce and review bills of materials;
9. Conduct site visits for scope validation, condition assessment, and commissioning support;
10. Coordinate with clients, authorities, and utilities;
11. Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and quality systems;
12. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders;
13. Mentor junior staff;
14. Perform additional tasks as required;
15. Support complex engineering issues with client teams to mitigate risks.

Qualifications

• 6 to 8 years of experience in electrical layout, preferably with large Canadian utilities;
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (power system specialization preferred);
• Registration or eligibility with EGBC or APEGA;
• Extensive experience with electrical design for utility substations;
• Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, and utility standards;
• Valid Canadian driver’s license;
• Proficiency in English; French skills are an asset;
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills;
• Ability to mentor junior engineers;

The salary will depend on experience, training, skills, and internal equity. It may vary based on the candidate’s profile.
