Job summary

The Town of Milton is seeking a Zoning Officer to interpret and administer municipal zoning and sign by-laws, ensuring development proposals comply with by-laws and applicable laws.

You will review applications, issue Certificates of Occupancy (Zoning), and support staff with amendments and enforcement.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in planning related disciplines, architectural/engineering technology, or equivalent experience.
• 3 years of zoning or related experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Planning Act, Municipal Act, Zoning principles and interpretation methodology.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Windows based software including Microsoft applications.
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G”.

Responsibilities

• Provide front line interpretation of the Zoning by-law and respond to inquiries.
• Review and comment on Site Plan, Land Division, Sign Variances and related applications.
• Ensure compliance with zoning by-laws and Ontario Building Code Act.
• Assist with site-specific zoning by-law amendments and enforcement.
• Attend court as an expert witness when required.
