The Youth Wellness Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering culturally grounded, trauma-informed mental wellness programming through Newo Yotina Friendship Centres Strengthening Generations Initiative.
This position has a strong and intentional focus on supporting Indigenous male youth and young men. The coordinator will develop relationships and programming specifically designed to engage boys and young men who may experience barriers to accessing traditional mental health and wellness services.
The role will focus on prevention and early intervention by creating safe, culturally relevant spaces where male youth can build positive relationships, strengthen their cultural identity, develop healthy coping strategies, increase confidence and leadership skills, and have open conversations about mental health and wellbeing.
Programming will address areas particularly relevant to boys and young men, including identity, belonging, positive masculinity, healthy relationships, emotional wellness, mentorship, leadership, cultural connection, life skills, peer support and help-seeking.
While male youth and young men will be a primary focus of this position, the Youth Wellness Coordinator will contribute to broader youth wellness activities and work collaboratively with Newo Yotinas existing Mental Wellness Worker to support the overall objectives of the Strengthening Generations Initiative.
The position combines individual support, group facilitation, cultural and land-based programming, mentorship, community outreach, referrals, system navigation and program coordination. The coordinator will work closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Friendship Centre staff, families and community partners to ensure participants have access to holistic and culturally responsive supports.
