Lac La Ronge Indian Band in Saskatchewan is seeking a compassionate Youth Support Worker to help children and youth develop life and social skills and access community resources.

You will work with the Prevention & Recovery and Cultural staff to provide individual guidance, organize youth discussions, grief workshops, and healthy lifestyle role modelling. The role requires flexibility for evenings and weekends and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent required.
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability.
  • Experience in facilitating groups, public speaking, presentations and report writing.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Cree language ability or knowledge of Cree culture is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Increase awareness and understanding of issues among First Nations youth.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of awareness and prevention initiatives.
  • Organize a committee in each community and engage youth on relevant issues.
  • Participate in youth planning across communities.
  • Assist in facilitating grief workshops for P&R and Cultural teams.
  • Inspire youth to live a healthy lifestyle.
  • Attend meetings, case conferences and trainings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.

About the facility:

The Youth Support Program is located in all LLRIB Health Services, Clinics and is part of the Cultural Program located in La Ronge, Morin’s Hill.

About the position:

Youth Support Worker will assist children and youth developing life skills, social skills and/or access to community resources. Providing individual care and guidance. The candidate will work with the Prevention & Recovery and Cultural staff in the communities, with youth, community members, and health care professional workers.

Duties:
  • Increasing awareness and understanding of issues among First Nations youth;
