Job summary

Kennedy House seeks Youth Workers at its Ajax, Ontario Youth Centre to supervise and support male youths in a 24/7 secure facility. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to address emotional, educational and behavioral needs and help with rehabilitation and reintegration within the community.

The role requires CPR Level C and First Aid Level C, a valid G driver's license, a police check, and strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience with youth in conflict with the law is an

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth in conflict with the law is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Human Rights Code.
  • Understanding of mental health and behavioral issues affecting youth.
  • Ability to work with diverse youth in secure settings.
  • Current CPR Level C and First Aid Level C certification within 30 days.
  • Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Search within 6 months.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Word).
  • Immunizations and vaccines as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and services addressing youths' emotional, clinical, educational, physical, family, spiritual, social, legal and cultural needs.
  • Observe youth relationships and changes in group dynamics.
  • Model positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Maintain written records of youth behaviors.
  • Contribute to case management and scheduling as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Prepare up-to-date files for assigned youth.
  • Maintain security requirements of the Youth Centre.
  • Interact with youth to promote safe, positive environment and rehabilitation.
  • Perform other duties as required.
