Job summary

Tropicana Community Services in Toronto is seeking a Part-time Peer Support Worker for the Black Justice Program. You will provide direct, relationship-based support to youth and young adults aged 12–29 who have been involved with the criminal justice system, working with the Social Worker to support reintegration into community, education and employment.

The role requires building trust, staying current on youth culture and social media trends, and flexibility to work evenings.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of the justice system and high-risk activity.
  • Strong knowledge of youth networks and social media trends.
  • Credibility and trust within communities served.
  • Peer support training or related diploma is an asset.
  • Ability to respond to safety-sensitive or high-risk situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to anti-Black racism and culturally responsive practice.

Responsibilities

  • Build authentic relationships with youth in the program.
  • Provide one-on-one mentorship and practical support for reintegration.
  • Model positive pathways away from gang involvement and high-risk activity.
  • Support life skills, coping strategies, and goal setting for education and employment.
  • Respond to crises and escalate as required.
  • Collaborate with the Social Worker for wraparound care.
  • Contribute to program KPIs with feedback and data.
