Job summary

Heart Beatz Child, Youth and Family Centre is looking for a Youth Engagement Worker to implement and oversee programs for youth, promoting social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

You will supervise youth, work with volunteers, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment aligned with agency policies. Collaboration with staff and community partners is essential.

Qualifications

• CYC or CYW certification is mandatory.
• CPR/First Aid certification is required.
• Ability to implement youth activities and supervise groups of youth.

Position Summary

Youth Engagement Workers will be responsible for working efficiently and effectively in a team environment to develop and implement programs and services for youth within the Community. These programs and services will promote their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. The Youth Engagement Worker will establish and reinforce a safe and healthy environment and ensure that all work is carried out within the context of the agency’s mission statement, philosophy, policies, procedures and organizational practices.

Responsibilities & Professional Competencies

(responsibilities will include but will not be limited to)

• Direct supervision of youth and lead activities
• Assist in the support and direction of volunteers and students
• Ensure that a safe & healthy environment is maintained
• Encourage the participation of all youth accessing the agencies programs/services
• Assist in the development and implementation of programs/services for youth that promotes Resiliency.
• Be able to work within a diverse community and be culturally sensitive and inclusive.
• Carry out goals, themes and schedule of the program to provide a consistent and high quality program and experience
• Monitor the use of equipment and facilities including maintaining it’s cleanliness
• Assist in the evaluation of programs/services and identify areas where new programs are needed
• Assist in organization of trips and activities and supervise youth within those activities
• Ensure that all administrative requirements for weekly activities/programs are completed within timelines
• Follow all agencies policies & procedures including managing serious occurrences, incidents and/or accidents
• Establish healthy and supportive relationships with youth in accordance to expectations and policies of the agency
• Assist in outreach and promotion of youth programs/services
• Establish and maintain co-operative relationships with colleagues and other professionals working in partnership with agency
• Establish and maintain co-operative relationships with parents/guardians of youth
• Represent program in a professional manner
• Attend staff meetings and required professional development trainings/workshops
• Purchase program supplies and groceries as needed
• Assist in receiving, sorting and putting away food/supply deliveries
• Clean program space daily (sweeping, mopping, bathroom, tables, dishes, etc.)
• Perform other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The Youth Engagement Worker must have a proficient knowledge in the followingareas:

• Valid certification in CPR/First Aid
• Valid certification in Safe Food Handler’s
• Valid certification in Suicide Prevention
• Ability to implement youth activities and supervising groups of youth
• Knowledge of current legislation, regulations, polices and procedure of involving youth in programs/services
• Youth engagement tools and methods of development and implementation
• An understanding of Priority Neighbourhoods specifically the Eglinton East/Kennedy Park Community and its resources
• Clear understanding of the “at-risk” youth population
• Team building skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
