Job Description

The responsibilities include:

  1. Resident Care and Support: supervising residents, developing therapeutic relationships, planning and participating in activities, supporting residents' development, and following policies and procedures.
  2. House Parent Duties: meal preparation, teaching life skills, overseeing educational and vocational activities, and maintaining food safety standards.
  3. Health & Safety: ensuring safety and security, managing incidents, and participating in safety committees.
  4. Communication and Reporting: documenting incidents and progress confidentially.
  5. Team Participation: attending meetings, collaborating with team members, and participating in organizational evaluations.
Critical Relationship Management

Internal contacts include Program Director, Case Management Supervisor, residents, and staff. External contacts include the Ministry of Social Services, community partners, schools, and health professionals.

Leadership Responsibilities

Reports to the Program Director; no direct reports.

Financial and Materials Management

Responsible for safeguarding materials and equipment; does not handle financial transactions.

Working Conditions

Work at Gemma House, involving travel, shift work, dealing with emotional residents, physical activity, and outdoor environments.

Qualifications

Post-secondary diploma in Social Service Work or Childcare, certifications (CPR, First Aid, TCI, etc.), a valid driver’s license, police check, and experience working with youth and marginalized populations.

Compensation

Salary range from $20.75 to $31.13 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Reasonable accommodations available upon request.
