Job summary

Peri Group is seeking a Yard Manager to lead a busy yard team in Surrey, BC. You will oversee yard operations, including shipping, receiving, refurbishment, and inventory control, while driving efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement.

This role reports to senior leadership and requires proactive decision-making to ensure seamless operations without disruption. The successful candidate will champion health and safety standards, manage KPIs, and coordinate facilities management,

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in warehouse, distribution centre or rental yard with 3+ years in leadership.
  • Proven experience overseeing day-to-day facilities management practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, track and maintain inventory records.
  • Knowledge of provincial Health & Safety requirements and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a yard team to deliver exceptional service and uphold standards of excellence.
  • Recruit, develop and manage employees to maintain high performance.
  • Prioritize, delegate and monitor work for team members.
  • Manage stock yard sections: shipping, receiving and refurbishment.
  • Establish and track KPIs to meet operational goals.
  • Improve operating ratios and inventory accuracy.
  • Oversee facilities operations including maintenance and repairs.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and verify contractor work.
  • Support health, safety and compliance, training, inspections and incident investigations.
  • Provide regular updates on progress and challenges.

The main purpose of PERI's Yard Manager (YRDMAN) position is to support all operational functions at the assigned site. In addition, it is the responsibility of the YRDMAN to provide direct leadership to operational leaders, driving efficiency, productivity, and continuous improvement. Reporting to senior leadership, the YRDMAN plays a critical role in identifying operational challenges and delivering effective solutions. This individual champions and enforces all Health and Safety standards, fostering a safe and compliant work environment. The ideal candidate is a steady and proactive leader who can coordinate multiple priorities, make informed decisions quickly, and ensure seamless operations without disruption.

What you'll do on a typical day:
  • Cultivate and empower a dedicated team of yard employees to deliver exceptional customer service and uphold a standard of excellence.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage employees to maintain high performance and customer service standards.
  • Prioritize, delegate, and monitor work assignments for team members.

Yard Operations Management:

  • Manage all sections of the stock yard, including shipping, receiving, and refurbishment.
  • Establish, track, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve operational goals.
  • Monitor and improve operating ratios to exceed established performance expectations.
  • Maximize inventory accuracy through effective tracking and verification processes.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards for materials and operational processes.
  • Review, optimize, and improve operational workflows and procedures.
  • Optimize labour, equipment, and material resource utilization.
  • Optimize yard space, storage layouts, and overall yard efficiency.
  • Manage a fleet of forklifts and ensure proper utilization.

Facilities Management:

  • Directly oversee facilities operations, including maintenance and repair of office, warehouse, and yard.
  • Obtain quotes and tenders from vendors and suppliers; verify completed work by contractors and vendors.
  • Develop and implement cost-reduction initiatives related to facilities and operations.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  • Maintain the highest standards of workplace Health & Safety, including:
    • Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and company policies/procedures.
    • Identifying hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.
    • Ensuring employees are trained on all applicable equipment.
    • Conducting regular safety talks, toolbox meetings, and training sessions.
    • Performing regular workplace inspections and follow-up actions.
    • Investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Participate in workers’ compensation claims management and the return-to-work program.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide frequent updates on work progress, performance, and operational challenges.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional departments.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need to be successful:
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a warehouse, distribution centre or rental yard environment; with 3+ years in a leadership position.
  • Proven experience in overseeing the day-to-day operations of facilities management practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, tracking and maintaining inventory and inventory records.
  • Working knowledge of applicable provincial Health & Safety requirements and an ability to apply these practices.
  • Experience in a stockyard environment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
