Job summary

Bow Valley Christian Church in Calgary's Varsity community seeks a Worship Pastor to lead and advance worship ministry. You will oversee vocalists, musicians, drama and stage design, and mentor a growing team to create high-quality Sunday experiences.

The role emphasizes spiritual leadership, collaboration with the Technical Director, and a heart for equipping volunteers and youth in worship across traditional and contemporary styles.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience leading worship, ideally with a congregation size of 600+.
• Experience in planning, preparing, and leading engaging worship experiences that are grounded in Scripture.

Responsibilities

• Oversight and coordination of all worship service music, drama, and stage design.
• Lead Sunday morning service worship during services.
• Equip, mentor, and support other worship leaders to lead Sunday morning services when needed.
• Provide visionary leadership for the culture and practices of BVCC's worship and creative arts ministries.
• Oversee and equip special music and drama teams for special events (especially Easter & Christmas Eve).
• Provide one non-Sunday morning worship/music event per month at BVCC.
• Develop and provide music ministry opportunities for youth and young adults.
• Work collaboratively with the Technical Director to provide excellence in our worship services and special events requiring music.

Bow Valley Christian Church is a non-denominational Christian church located in Calgary's Varsity community. Founded in 1928, the church exists to "help people find and follow Jesus" through biblical teaching, worship, community groups, and local and global outreach ministries.

The church is rooted in historic Christian beliefs, including the authority of Scripture, salvation through Jesus Christ alone, believer's baptism by immersion, and the mission of making disciples. Bow Valley welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds and offers ministries for children, youth, adults, and seniors.

About the Worship Pastor

The Worship Pastor is tasked with moving forward the mission of BVCC by equipping members to find and follow Jesus through the provision of a high-quality worship experience. This includes oversight of vocalists, musicians, drama and stage design. Success in this role will be evidenced by:

• High-quality, professional, and engaging weekly worship experiences
• Expanded participation of volunteers and team members in worship, drama, and stage design
• Creating a community of Belonging within team members through formal and informal opportunities to connect with one another

The Worship Pastor's responsibilities include:

Worship Services

• Oversight and coordination of all worship service music, drama, and stage design.
• Lead Sunday morning service worship during services.
• Equip, mentor, and support other worship leaders to lead Sunday morning services when needed.

Spiritual Growth & Personal Development

• Communicate opportunities for team members to receive pastoral care and spiritual growth.
• Recruit, equip, and mentor volunteers for the worship and creative arts team.
• Participate in local or online worship ministry networking groups and professional development.
• Organize opportunities for team members' growth and development as a musician or vocalist.

Administration

• Develop and oversee the worship (non-technical) budget.
• Scheduling of worship and creative arts volunteers (includes musicians, vocalists, drama, and set design).
• Overseeing and coordinating sanctuary / stage set design and decorations.
• Oversight of BVCC instruments and musical equipment and accessories (including inventory, maintenance).

Education and Experience

• 3+ years of experience leading worship, ideally with a congregation size of 600+.
• Experience in planning, preparing, and leading engaging worship experiences that are filled with the Spirit, grounded in Scripture, and tied to the sermon message.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Wide knowledge of various musical styles with emphasis on the music of the church, both traditional and contemporary.
• Musically gifted as a vocalist and instrumentalist / ability to read music and lead various instrumentalists.
• Experience with envisioning and leading teams for drama, set, and stage design.
• Computer skills and the ability to use and continue to learn technology for scheduling volunteers & music selections.
• Experience in the professional management of planning, leading, and coordinating volunteers for worship & special events including weddings and funerals.
