Job summary

UHN is seeking a Workplace Violence Prevention Education Specialist to help build a new training and education program across the hospital network. You will collaborate with the Safety Services Team and leadership to deliver and refine TIDES and related trainings in classroom, virtual, and eLearning formats.

  • University or college graduate in adult education, health science, health promotion, social or behavioural sciences.
  • Three years of experience with group facilitation and consultation.
  • Three years of experience directly supporting clients/patients in inpatient or outpatient programs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver, facilitate, refine, develop, and research workplace violence prevention training and education (i.e. TIDES) in various formats including classroom and virtual delivery, simulations, clinical settings, and eLearning.
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders and Leadership across UHN.
  • Consult to identify and address program improvements related to workplace violence prevention, training and education.
  • Support and participate in workplace violence incident follow-up, including debriefs, to identify and support program improvements.
  • Analyze and present workplace violence training metrics and quality indicators to UHN Leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Support communication efforts of the program through written communications, media, websites, and presentations.
  • Work with diverse health care teams and engage staff from various backgrounds.

Union: Non-Union Number of vacancies: 1 New or Replacement Position: Replacement Site: Toronto General Hospital Department: People & Culture - Safety Services Reports to: Manager Salary Range: $78,954 to $118,424 annually Hours: 37.5 per week Status: Permanent Full-Time Closing Date: September 17, 2026 Position Summary UHN has embarked on an exciting initiative towards building a new Workplace Violence Training and Education Program, which will help mitigate Workplace Violence across our hospital network. The role of Workplace Violence Prevention Education Specialist is a newly created position at UHN and represents an exciting new opportunity. The successful candidate will collaborate with members of UHN’s Safety Services Team and UHN Leadership on a comprehensive workplace violence prevention training and education program.

Duties

  • Deliver, facilitate, refine, develop, and research workplace violence prevention training and education (i.e. TIDES) in various formats including classroom and virtual delivery, physical technique demonstrations, simulations, clinical departmental unit settings, and eLearning.
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders and Leadership across UHN
  • Consult to identify and address program improvements related to workplace violence prevention, training and education.
  • Support and participate in workplace violence incident follow up, including debriefs, to identify and support workplace violence program, training and education improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze and assess workplace violence training and education metrics, quality indicators and present to UHN Leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Support the communication efforts of the workplace violence prevention, training and education program through written communication, various media, websites, and presentations based on programming and initiatives.
  • Work with a diverse health care environment and engage effectively with staff from various professional, cultural, and social backgrounds
  • At minimum, a university or college graduate in adult education, health science, health promotion, social or behavioural sciences, combined with at least three (3) years of experience with group facilitation and consultation.
  • At minimum, three (3) years of experience directly supporting clients/patients in an inpatient or outpatient program.
  • Preferred candidate will have (3) years of experience with Workplace Violence education programs, such as the prevention and management of aggressive behaviour (PMAB), Non Crisis Intervention Training (NCIT), Team Response Intervention Training (TRIT), Trauma-Informed De-escalation Education for safety and Self-protection (TIDES) programs or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience consulting and building trusted relationships with stakeholders, identifying needs, and designing, developing and delivering solutions in a wide range of business environments.
  • Demonstrated assessment and consultation skills related to environmental factors, organizational policies and protocols and procedures to promote safety of staff and clients/patients.
  • Intermediate to expert in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong client service orientation, time management and organization skills, and communication skills.
  • Experience facilitating discussions related to equity, inclusion, cultural humility, unconscious bias, or workplace respect
  • Ability to produce high quality and accurate work required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure required.
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player required.
  • Ability to perform duties in a self-directed manner required.
  • Experience working with a learning management system an asset.
