Job summary

Winnipeg School Division is seeking a Workplace Safety & Health Advisor to continue the development and implementation of the division's Safety & Health program in compliance with the Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Act and related regulations.

The role includes assisting in safety investigations, inspecting schools for compliance, delivering safety training, and maintaining programs such as WHMIS, Asbestos Management, Lock-out, IAQ, and more.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary credential in safety & health required.
• Minimum five years of safety and health experience.
• Ability to work with management, labour and committees.

Responsibilities

• Assist in investigation of safety and health issues.

• Provide training on workplace safety topics.
• Maintain programs such as WHMIS, Asbestos Management, Lock-out, IAQ, Crawlspace/Confined Space, Hearing Conservation, Working Alone/Isolation, Committees.

WORKPLACE SAFETY & HEALTH ADVISOR

STAFF SUPPORT & RELATIONS

FULL TIME - TERM (18 Months)

The incumbent, working together with the current Workplace Safety & Health Officers, will continue the development and implementation of Winnipeg School Division’s Safety & Health program in compliance with the Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Act and Regulations and other related legislation.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Assisting in the investigation of safety and health issues throughout the Division;
• Inspection of schools and buildings for compliance with safety regulations and policies;
• Provision of training on various workplace safety & health topics;
• Maintaining various programs including WHMIS, Asbestos Management, Lock-out, IAQ, Crawlspace/Confined Space, Hearing Conservation, Working Alone/Isolation, Committees;
• Assessing and developing job hazard analysis and safe work procedures;
• Resource for school administration and management team on Health and Safety program implementation.

Qualifications:

• A Post Secondary diploma or degree specializing in a Safety & Health related discipline or education may be considered;
• Five years experience in the Safety & Health field or similar;
• Working in collaboration with management teams, labour groups, committees etc;
• Excellent communication skills;
• An ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Experience working with a diverse cultural population;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point;
• Knowledge of the current Workplace Safety & Health Act and Regulations;
• Knowledge of construction related regulations, codes and best practice;
• Knowledge of Building maintenance techniques, in particular HVAC systems;
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or similar would be an asset.
