David Aplin Recruiting is assisting a client in Winnipeg to hire an experienced Health & Safety Specialist. The role offers a chance to grow into a leadership position, working closely with the current safety leader and assuming greater ownership over the program.

You will split time between office and field, conduct site visits, support investigations, and promote a proactive safety culture across the organization. Travel is approximately 25% within Manitoba.

Qualifications

• 5+ years health & safety experience, preferably in construction or related field.
• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field is an asset.
• COR certification is a strong asset.
• Strong knowledge of Manitoba OHS legislation and workplace safety requirements.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Practical, hands‑on approach to health and safety.
• Valid driver''s license and clean criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Conduct workplace and job-site inspections in Winnipeg and Manitoba.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to join our client's team in Winnipeg.

This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional looking to take the next step in their career and assume increasing responsibility for the organization's health & safety program. The successful candidate will work closely with the current safety leader, gaining in-depth knowledge of the organization, its people, operations, and safety practices, with the opportunity to take on greater ownership of the function over the next several years.

Your time will be divided between the office and field, conducting site visits and inspections, supporting incident investigations, identifying hazards, providing training, and working directly with supervisors and employees to promote a strong and proactive safety culture.

Travel is approximately 25%, primarily day trips throughout Manitoba, with typically 1-4 overnight stays per month. A flexible travel schedule is available.

Key Responsibilities

• Take a lead role in supporting and continually improving the company's health and safety program.
• Conduct regular workplace and job-site inspections throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba.
• Identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend practical corrective actions.
• Lead or support incident, accident, and near-miss investigations.
• Deliver safety orientations, training sessions, toolbox meetings, and other safety communications.
• Work closely with supervisors and employees to identify safety concerns and develop practical solutions.
• Maintain safety documentation and support internal and external audits and compliance requirements.
• Assist with the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
• Monitor changes to Manitoba OHS legislation and industry best practices and help ensure the organization remains compliant.
• Build strong working relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, and leadership.
• Manage PPE inventory and ensure appropriate equipment is available and maintained.
• Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable resource for health and safety questions across the organization.
• Develop a thorough understanding of the company's operations and progressively assume greater responsibility for the health and safety function.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of health & safety experience, preferably within construction or a related industry.
• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is an asset.
• COR certification is a strong asset.
• Strong knowledge of Manitoba OHS legislation and workplace safety requirements.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• A practical, hands‑on approach to health and safety.
• Comfortable working independently and spending time in the field.
• Ability to build credibility and positive relationships at all levels of an organization.
• Valid driver's license and clean criminal background check.
