Job summary

Atira Women's Resource Society seeks a Women's Support Worker to provide day-to-day support for women and children in the Veronica Block Recovery Housing program in Vancouver. The role involves emotional and practical support, group activities, and advocacy to foster safety and well-being.

The position emphasizes trauma-informed, culturally responsive service delivery and requires staff who identify as women. Union membership is noted for this program.

Qualifications

• Diploma in related human/social service field.
• One year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Food Safe Certification is a required.
• A valid First Aid certificate is required.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate is required (Atira to provide within 3 months of employment).
• All positions are subject to a Criminal Records Review (Paid by Atira).
• Covid-19 (Including Booster) and annual flu vaccinations are recommended.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day support for women (and children), including emotional and practical assistance.
• Engage in active listening, one-to-one support, group support, advocacy and accompaniment.
• Assist with moving in/out, keeping rooms/units clean, and coordinating meals and communal activities.
• Support medication and health care needs, including naloxone administration and maintaining records.
