Job summary

City of Markham in Ontario is seeking several temporary sidewalk maintenance workers for the 2026–2027 winter season. Positions guarantee a minimum of 24 hours per week, with up to 48 hours, and two shift options: Monday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Friday, plus on-call every other weekend.

A one-hour call-out window is required. You will maintain designated sidewalk routes, operate municipal tractors for plowing, sanding and snow blowing, perform hand shoveling and salt application, and assist with

Qualifications

• Experience in grounds or winter maintenance.
• Experience operating sidewalk maintenance equipment (tractors, plows, snow blowers).
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Good customer service skills.
• Must have a clean driver's record and valid G license.

Responsibilities

• Provide sidewalk winter maintenance as part of a crew.
• Maintain a designated sidewalk route per SOPs.
• Operate sidewalk tractors for plowing, sanding, and snow blowing.
• Perform hand shoveling, sanding, and salt application.
• Assist Roads and Parks Labourers as needed.
• Conduct sidewalk inspections per maintenance standards.
• Set up and take down signage and safety devices.
• Assist with traffic setup for construction projects.
