Job summary

Dawson Road Maintenance in Smithers, BC is hiring Labourers for a temporary, full-time role reporting to the Road Foreperson. You will contribute to road maintenance across our province with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of road maintenance or construction experience, a valid license, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Travel within BC may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of road maintenance and/or construction experience.
  • Valid Class 1 preferred, or 3 drivers license required.
  • Knowledge of traffic control and safety around equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety of self and others while performing duties.
  • Operate heavy equipment in all weather conditions as required.
  • Follow Supervisor directions on daily production schedule.
  • Keep work progress logs and maintenance records up to date.
  • Direct traffic and ensure smooth flow through work zones.

Job description

Dawson Road Maintenance is looking for Labourers, who have a good knowledge of safety around equipment, an eagerness to learn, and a strong work ethic.

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in a temporary, full-time position of Labourer reporting to the Road Foreperson. We are currently hiring in Smithers, B.C. and may require some travel throughout our great province.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Must prioritize safety of self and others in all aspects of the job
  • Work collaboratively with all team members to successfully complete tasks at hand.
  • Ability to perform unskilled manual work requiring little previous training or experience but involving physical effort.
  • Operate heavy equipment in all weather conditions, on public roadways in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Follow direction of the Supervisor regarding daily production schedule and activities
  • Maintains a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion
  • Maintain proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment
  • Complete all work reports and maintenance logs
  • Stop, slow, and safely direct traffic through work or construction sites
  • Give traffic control directions and signals clearly and precisely so that motorists understand their meaning
  • Keep the flow of traffic moving with as few delays as possible
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Minimum two (2) years of road maintenance and/or construction experience
  • Valid Class 1 preferred, or 3 Drivers license is required
  • Two (2) years commercial driving experience is an asset
  • BCCSA Traffic Control Ticket
  • Experience in snow removal is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements
  • Heavy Equipment Operating Certificate an asset
  • Able to manage electronic reporting using tablets
  • Minor equipment maintenance
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work shift work
