Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking Spare Winter Equipment Operators for Annapolis County, based in Middleton, Lequille, and Digby. Training provided, followed by paid plowing experience and a driving assessment for snow removal duties.

Roles involve operating heavy equipment, performing inspections, and maintaining logs in varied weather. Hours are not guaranteed; some overtime and wage guarantee options may apply.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience or an acceptable equivalent of education, training, and relevant experience.
• Minimum of Class III license with air brake endorsement.
• Reading and writing skills are required to understand department documentation and to complete daily logs, inspection reports, etc.
• Helpful: professional driving course, hydraulic systems knowledge, heavy equipment training, prior salt/plow experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate snow removal equipment such as snowplows, graders, and loaders; perform basic maintenance and inspections.
• Maintain daily logs and complete inspection reports; conduct pre- and post-trip checks.
• Possible other tasks such as signs maintenance, road repairs and traffic control.
• Work may require flexible hours; wages may be paid under Winter Wage Guarantee as described.
