Job summary

Lockheed Martin Ottawa is seeking an engineering intern to participate in hardware and software design, requirements analysis, and system reviews. You will help analyze vendor data, perform FMECA, and contribute to dependability tasks within a collaborative team environment.

The role requires pursuing an engineering degree in a related field, knowledge of MS Office, and the ability to work independently and in teams. Availability for 4–8 months starting September 2026 is expected.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an engineering degree (systems/software, mechanical, electrical, computer, aerospace) or related field.
• Eligible for NATO Secret clearance in a timely manner.
• Proficient with MS Office tools (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Visio).
• Ability to break down complex systems into logical units.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex systems.
• Team-oriented, capable of independent work, and well-organized.
• Available for 4–8 months starting September 2026.

Responsibilities

• Participate in engineering activities including design and requirements analysis.
• Review vendor data for reliability and maintainability implications.
• Support FMECA and dependability analyses.
• Develop and review Functional Block Diagrams (FBDs) and Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs).
• Contribute to design reviews and system architecture discussions.
• Assist design for supportability and upgradeability activities.

The candidate will participate in engineering activities including but not limited to:

• Hardware and software design and requirements analysis
• Review and analyze vendor data for:
• Reliability, Availability and Maintainability predictions
• Failure Modes, Effects, & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
• Appropriately placed repair, sparing, and lifecycle cost predictions
• Functional Block Diagrams (FBDs)
• Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs)
• Participating in design and system architecture reviews
• Ensuring Design for Supportability and Engineering for Supportability (Dependability, affordability, standardization, upgradeability) activities are being considered and captured.

Basic Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in System/Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
• Eligible for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secret clearance in a timely manner
• Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
• Technical mindset to breakdown systems into logical units
• Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and their components
• Aptitude for working well in teams and solving challenging problems in a team environment
• Ability to work independently
• Well organized, capable of planning, scheduling and prioritizing work
• Available for a minimum of four (4) months, up to eight (8) months, starting September 2026.

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of Systems Engineering, Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
