Job summary

Manulife John Hancock is seeking an Accounting Winter Co-op to launch your career in accounting and finance. Based in Toronto, you will gain hands-on experience and participate in the CPA Development Program, working with dedicated professionals in a supportive environment.

This internship is designed for undergraduates eager to apply technical skills, gain business insight, and develop leadership capabilities while contributing to real-world reporting and financial analysis.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting with a focus on Finance and Economics.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team with sound judgment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and deadline-driven prioritization.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to streamline processes.
  • Support development and implementation of new processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support reporting and understand monthly and quarterly deliverables.
  • Prepare monthly reports and related analyses.
  • Review submissions with leaders and escalate issues impacting reporting.
  • Assist month-end production, journal entries, budgets, and Actuals to Budget analysis.
  • Investigate ledgers, statements, and journals using various tools and Excel.
  • Aim to improve existing reporting processes and drive efficiencies.

Our Accounting Internship Program, available at our Toronto office, provides invaluable hands‑on experience and serves as a direct pathway to our CPA Development Program. You'll gain technical expertise, business insight, and leadership skills while collaborating with dedicated accounting professionals in a supportive and nurturing environment. This opportunity is ideal for undergraduate students eager to acquire real‑world experience in accounting and finance.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provide support and handle aspects of reporting while understanding monthly and quarterly deliverables.
  • Prepare monthly reports including analysis related to job functions.
  • Meet with leaders to review submissions and highlight possible risks and opportunities while taking initiative to escalation issues impacting reporting functions.
  • Support Month‑end production and reporting work, including journal entries, budgets, adjustments, Actuals to Budget analysis, consolidating Reporting packages.
  • Gain proficiency in investigating financial ledgers, statements, and journals using various software tools and Excel.
  • Acquire expertise in accounting practices, including reconciling, and analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts, all while adhering to corporate standards.
  • Lead the continuous improvements of existing reporting processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting, with a strong interest in Finance and Economics and a solid foundation in general Business principles.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI, along with exceptional mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, capable of working both independently and as part of a team while exercising sound judgment.
  • Exhibits meticulous attention to detail, effectively prioritizing tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Ability to identify and recommend improvements to streamline existing processes.
  • Supports the development and implementation of new processes.
  • Responds to challenges and opportunities with a positive and productive attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Access and Visual Basic is required for some roles.

Salary Range Is Expected To Be Between

$40,950.00 CAD - $56,550.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job‑related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. The annual salary will be pro‑rated based on the length of the work‑term.
