Job summary

Manulife John Hancock offers an Accounting Summer Internship at its Toronto office, designed to launch your career in accounting and finance. The program supports CPA development and provides hands-on experience with reporting, analytics, and month-end processes.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting with interest in Finance/Economics.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Power BI; analytical and math skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable; able to work independently and in a team.
  • Meticulous attention to detail; able to prioritize in deadline-driven environments.
  • Identifies improvements to streamline processes; supports new implementations.
  • Knowledge of Access and Visual Basic is required for some roles.

  • Provide support for reporting and understand monthly/quarterly deliverables.
  • Prepare monthly reports with analysis related to job functions.
  • Meet with leaders to review submissions and highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Support month-end production and reporting, including journal entries and budgets.
  • Investigate financial ledgers, statements and journals using software tools and Excel.
  • Gain expertise in accounting practices, including reconciliations and balance sheet analyses.
  • Lead continuous improvements of existing reporting processes.

Our Accounting Internship Program, available at our Toronto office, provides invaluable hands‑on experience and serves as a direct pathway to our CPA Development Program. You'll gain technical expertise, business insight, and leadership skills while collaborating with dedicated accounting professionals in a supportive and nurturing environment. This opportunity is ideal for undergraduate students eager to acquire real‑world experience in accounting and finance.

Position Responsibilities


  • Provide support and handle aspects of reporting while understanding monthly and quarterly deliverables.

  • Prepare monthly reports including analysis related to job functions.

  • Meet with leaders to review submissions and highlight possible risks and opportunities while taking initiative to elevate issues impacting reporting functions.

  • Support Month‑end production and reporting work, including journal entries, budgets, adjustments, Actuals to Budget analysis, consolidating Reporting packages.

  • Gain proficiency in investigating financial ledgers, statements, and journals using various software tools and Excel.

  • Acquire expertise in accounting practices, including reconciling, and analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts, all while adhering to corporate standards.

  • Lead the continuous improvements of existing reporting processes.


Required Qualifications


  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business or Accounting, with a strong interest in Finance and Economics and a solid foundation in general Business principles.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI, along with exceptional mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Flexible and adaptable, capable of working both independently and as part of a team while exercising sound judgment.

  • Exhibits meticulous attention to detail, effectively prioritizing tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.

  • Ability to identify and recommend improvements to streamline existing processes.

  • Supports the development and implementation of new processes.

  • Responds to challenges and opportunities with a positive and productive attitude.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Access and Visual Basic is required for some roles.

Salary range is expected to be between


$40,950.00 CAD - $56,550.00 CAD


The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job‑related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. The annual salary will be pro‑rated based on the length of the work‑term.
