Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement wildfire mitigation strategies and treatment plans.
  • Support risk assessments and interpretation of vegetation and fuel types to inform planning.
  • Contribute to analysis and prescription development for thinning, pruning, and other treatments.
  • Conduct field assessments and collect environmental, vegetation, and geospatial data.
  • Assist habitat restoration planning and monitoring.
  • Coordinate project tasks, schedules, and deliverables; support client engagement.
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, and regulatory documentation.

Wildfire Mitigation Specialist
Location:

This is an Alberta-based position, in-office or hybrid within the Edmontonor Calgaryarea.

The Role:

You will play a key role in solving complex environmental and land management challenges across Canada. Working within our Energy & Environment team, you will support a diverse portfolio of projects for clients in the municipal, forestry, oil and gas, utility, government, and broader resource sectors. This position combines both field and office responsibilities. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, implementation, and monitoring of wildfire mitigationactivitieswhile supportingotherenvironmentalprojects. The role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working outdoors, collaborating with clients and project teams, and applying technical skills to solve real-world environmental challenges.

What You'll Do:
  • Support the development and implementation of wildfire mitigation strategies and treatment plans
  • Support wildfire risk and fuel hazard assessments, including interpretation of vegetation, fuel types, stand structure, fuel continuity, and treatment opportunities to inform mitigation planning
  • Contribute to wildfire analysis and treatment prescription development for initiatives such as thinning, pruning, mowing, species conversion, dead and down woody debris reduction, and other mechanical fuel treatments
  • Conduct field assessments and collect environmental, vegetation, and geospatial data
  • Assistwith habitat restoration planning, implementation, and monitoring programs
  • Support field operations, contractors, and projectlogistics
  • Analyze environmental and spatial data to support project decision-making
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, presentations, and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate project tasks, schedules, and deliverables
  • Support client engagement and stakeholder communications
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge development within the team
What you Bring:
  • Demonstrated interest in wildfire mitigation and fuels management, with a desire to build technicalexpertisein applied wildfire planning and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work safely in remote field environments and varying weather conditions
  • Experience conducting fieldwork related to wildfire management, forestry, environmental monitoring, restoration, or natural resource projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Self-motivated witha strong desireto learn and grow professionally
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, or equivalent) would be considered an asset
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, R, or Excel would be considered an asset
  • Project coordination or project management experience would be considered an asset
Preferred Assets:
  • Experience developing, analyzing or implementing wildfire mitigation treatments
  • Experience with wildfire hazard, risk, or behaviour analysis, including fuel typing, treatment prioritization, or development/implementation of fuel treatment prescriptions
  • FireSmartexperience
  • Forestry field experience
  • Experience operating ATVs/UTVs, snowmobiles, or other off-road equipment
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Drone pilot certification
Academic Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in forestry, environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, environmental planning, agriculture, geography, GIS, or a related discipline
  • Graduate degree considered an asset but notrequired
  • Eligible for or working toward a professional designation such as:
    • RPF, RPFT,P.Bio.,P.Ag.,EP,or equivalent
Working Conditions:
  • Field work may involve travel to project sites acrossAlberta / Western Canada, including remote locations, for periods of upto10daysat a time
  • Fieldwork can involve working in variable weather, walking over uneven terrain, and carrying equipment
  • Reasonable physical fitness isrequiredfor the field portions of the role
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence and a satisfactory driver's abstract arerequired
  • A company vehicle will be provided for field travel
  • Overnight stays in field or camp accommodations may berequiredduring active field seasons
