Job summary

The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper, is seeking an experienced B.C. Business Reporter (Editorial) based in British Columbia with a hybrid work arrangement.

You'll cover Western Canadian business, including energy, mining and technology, develop a solid network of sources, and work closely with the energy team to cover Alberta. Strong reporting and writing on deadline are essential.

Qualifications

• At least five years experience as a reporter in a daily news organization.
• Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work.
• Ability to cultivate sources to break news and get inside key issues.
• Familiarity with political reporting and economics.
• Strong writing with versatile range - from hard news to human-interest feature to explanatory.
• Comfortable working in a variety of formats, including live blogs, newsletters, video and audio.

Responsibilities

• Cover breaking business news, issues and trends in British Columbia and Alberta.
• Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
• Develop and maintain sources in business and government, including key players in the energy industry, to deliver exclusive news and insight
• Write clearly and concisely on deadline
• Work with colleagues across Report on Business and wider newsroom to generate story ideas and enrich The Globe's coverage
• Think beyond standard storytelling formats and participate in Globe subscriber events
