Job summary

The Globe and Mail is seeking an experienced business reporter based in British Columbia to cover Western Canada’s dynamic sectors, including energy, mining, forestry, agriculture, technology and tourism. The reporter will develop exclusive stories and move quickly to break news while building sources.

Based in Vancouver, you will regularly cover BC and Alberta, work with the energy team, and contribute to enterprise pieces, features, and analysis for Globe readers, on deadline and across

Qualifications

Minimum five years as a reporter in a daily newsroom.
Strong news judgment with enterprise reporting.
Ability to cultivate sources to break news.
Familiarity with political reporting and economics.
Excellent writing across hard news and features.
Comfort with live blogs, newsletters, video, and audio.

Responsibilities

Cover breaking business news, issues and trends in British Columbia and Alberta.
Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
Develop and maintain sources in business and government to deliver exclusive news and insight
Write clearly and concisely on deadline
Work with colleagues across Report on Business and wider newsroom to generate story ideas
Think beyond standard storytelling formats and participate in Globe subscriber events
