Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. and CanAtom are delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project in a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation.

The Welding General Foreperson will supervise and coordinate construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence within RFBR scope. The role requires leading field teams, integrating with engineers and subcontractors, and maintaining thorough on-site documentation while upholding security and licensing

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-10 years construction supervision experience.
  • Welding Certification of Qualification or equivalent combination of training/experience.
  • Ability to coordinate a construction project.
  • Knowledge of construction technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and safety requirements.
  • Good communication, organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Basic blueprint understanding.
  • Nuclear experience an asset, including vault work.
  • Must be able to obtain unescorted access to the Nuclear Power Plant.
  • OPG security clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize use of materials and equipment and contractual performance.
  • Ensure trades personnel complete training in safety, quality, qualifications, equipment operation and owner requirements.
  • Construct in compliance with drawings, specs, FWPs, ITPs, schedule and budget.
  • Interface with client reps, design engineers, consultants, other contractors.
  • Maintain field documentation such as safety records, progress reports, training records, T&E and rental records.

Opportunity

CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 5–8. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the CanAtom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontario’s clean energy future. Under the general direction of the Superintendent, the Welding General Foreperson will assist in the supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction activities for their dedicated scope.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in compliance with safety, quality and human performance policies.
  • Utilize project master schedule to create detailed look ahead schedules for forecasting and planning.
  • Assist in developing recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy.
  • Plan and approve the work of own forces and subcontractors on the project including determining methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules.
  • Assume responsibility for the efficient use of materials and equipment and contractual performance of the project.
  • Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner specified requirements.
  • Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Field Work Packages (FWPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project schedule and budget.
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc. as required.
  • Ensure the work is carried out in accordance with QA Programs and project quality guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, training records, T&E and rental records, manpower reports, owner support requests, FWP documents, etc.
  • Participate in basic layout, preparation of work instructions, field engineering activities, etc.
  • Oversee and directly support work during execution phase, including monitoring for performance, provision of guidance to the field team, reporting to line management, leading problem-solving efforts and development of adverse condition recovery plans.
  • Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications/codes and CITP’s.
  • Identify and support CITP and/or DCN revisions as necessary to support field work.
  • Manage and maintain OPEX in the project database for future use.
  • Attend and participate in the Plan of the Day and other meetings as required.
  • Coordinate Foreperson and execution crew in the execution of their assigned duties.
  • Coordinate across all functions of the project as required to achieve task(s) goals.
  • Provide leadership to Field supervisors, Coordinators and respective Craft Labor.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-10 years construction supervision experience.
  • Must possess Welding Certification of Qualification or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Ability to successfully coordinate a construction project.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements.
  • Good communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Basic presentation skills.
  • Basic blue print understanding.
  • Nuclear experience an asset, including vault work.
  • Due to the nature of work conducted by RFBR, must be able to obtain unescorted access to the Nuclear Power Plant.
  • Our background check process includes a full security check and clearance process as well as reference checks. The security clearance process includes a comprehensive list of previous residences, employment, education and other pertinent information. Those with a valid OPG security clearance are strongly preferred.
Compensation

Reason for vacancy: New
Pay Rate: $70.289/Hr Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
