Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Manager for the Pickering RFBR project in Ontario. You will supervise trades and subcontractors, coordinate with the Construction Manager, and ensure work complies with drawings, ITPs, and safety requirements.

You will develop look-ahead schedules, manage subcontractors, and interface with clients, engineers, and other contractors to keep the project on schedule and budget.

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience; vital for coordinating trade groups and subcontractors.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to manage multiple interfaces.
  • Supervisory capabilities with focus on safety and quality compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, cost reports and schedules.
  • Experience with project master schedule, look-ahead planning and recovery strategies.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Job description

CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RFBR) of Units 5–8.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and public.
  • Responsible to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in compliance with safety, quality and human performance policies.
  • Implement Joint Venture and Client policies and project procedures as required.
  • Assist in developing, monitoring and updating of project schedule with the Construction Manager. Ensure subcontractors comply with project master schedule.
  • Utilize project master schedule to help create detailed look‑ahead schedules with supervisors and subcontractors.
  • Assist in developing recovery strategies when project schedule or budget is in jeopardy.
  • Plan, supervise and approve the work of own forces and subcontractors on the project including determining methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of trades and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and equipment and contractual performance of the project.
  • Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner specified requirements.
  • Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Fieldwork Packages (FWPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project schedule and budget.
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
  • Ensure the work is carried out in accordance with QA Programs and project quality guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, training records, T&E and rental records, manpower reports, owner support requests, FWP documents, etc.
  • Participate in layout and preparation of work instructions, field engineering activities, etc.
  • Stand in as nominated delegate for Construction manager when required.
  • Direct General Forepersons, Forepersons, hourly trades and subcontractors in the execution of their assigned duties.
  • Maintain discipline and implement procedures where necessary.
Qualifications
  • Education to include a technical college diploma or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Minimum 10 years construction and subcontractor supervision experience.
  • Ability to successfully supervise a construction project.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements.
  • Good communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and understand Cost Reports.
  • Basic presentation skills.
  • Leadership experience; this is a vital role in the organization and leading of the project plans.
