Job summary

Maple Lodge Farms is seeking a Welder/Fitter to design, fabricate, weld, repair and install plant equipment. Responsibilities include emergency repairs to keep the plant running, with a 6am-4pm shift on a 4-week rotation between weekdays and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical aptitude including basic electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use various welding processes.
  • Safe operation of hand and power tools with steel and stainless steel.
  • Experience operating Metal Shear, Press Brake, Rolling Press and Pedestal Drill.
  • Ability to read schematics, drawings and prints.
  • Familiar with food plant regulatory standards (CFIA, GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety/quality).
  • Knowledge of Meat Plant Equipment is a major asset.
  • OHSA and WHMIS knowledge.
  • Current, valid CWB and TSSA welding tickets.
  • Forklift, Scissor Lift and Working at Heights certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and removes equipment, fabricates/repairs conveyors, tanks, cabinets, and other production support equipment.
  • Welds/repairs shackles, cages, and other production components.
  • Installs, welds and repairs ammonia, steam, high-pressure and pneumatic piping systems.
  • Replaces worn or corroded overhead line tracks, supports and guidance.
  • Reads and interprets drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine layout requirements.
  • Plans task sequences and performs fabrication safely and efficiently.
  • Performs calculations using shop formulas and methods.
  • Measures, marks and lays out plates and structural shapes.
  • Sets up and operates machinery to cut and form parts.
  • Connects components using welding and mechanical fasteners.
  • Uses material handling, rigging, hoisting equipment safely.
  • Performs duties safely and with precision per drawings and codes.
  • Assists Maintenance with emergency repairs and other trades.

About The Role

The Welder/Fitter will be responsible for designing, fabricating, welding, repairing and installing various items and equipment in the plant. They will complete emergency repairs to keep the plant running.
This is an existing position in the company. The shift is 6am-4pm and rotates between weekday and weekend shifts on a 4-week rotation.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Installs and removes equipment. Fabricates/repairs conveyors, tanks, cabinets, and other production support equipment.
  • Repairs/welds shackles, cages, wiener plant trees and sticks, etc.
  • Installs, welds, repairs: ammonia, steam, high pressure and pneumatic piping systems.
  • Replaces worn or corroded overhead line tracks, supports and guiding.
  • Reads and interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements.
  • Plans the sequence of tasks and executes fabrication safely and efficiently.
  • Performs calculations and applies shop formulas by using mathematical methods.
  • Completes tasks of measuring, marking, and laying out a variety of plate and structural shapes.
  • Sets up and operates trade specific machinery to cut and form parts to be assembled.
  • Connects components using various welding processes and mechanical fasteners.
  • Utilizes material handling, rigging, hoisting, and lifting equipment safely.
  • Performs job duties safely and with precision ensuring compliance with drawings and applicable codes and standards.
  • Assists Maintenance with emergency repairs and other Trades as necessary.
What You Will Bring
  • Must possess mechanical aptitude including basic electrical, hydraulic pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use various welding processes.
  • Ability to work correctly and safely with hand and power tools, steel/stainless steel, pipes, and other related materials.
  • Experience in operating Metal Shear, Press Brake, Rolling Press and Pedestal Drill.
  • Ability to work from schematics, drawings and prints.
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety, food quality, etc.
  • Knowledge of Meat Plant Equipment is a major asset.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS.
  • Current, valid CWB and TSSA welding tickets.
  • Forklift, Scissor Lift and Working at Heights certifications.
