Job summary

Bird Heavy Civil is seeking a Welder to join our team for heavy civil infrastructure projects in Sudbury, Ontario. The role involves welding and repairing metal components, reading blueprints, and maintaining strict safety and quality standards on site.

Candidates should have over a decade of welding experience in heavy civil work, be able to work day and night shifts, and function well within a team on rotating remote-site assignments.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years’ welding experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Required safety training: Fall Protection, WHMIS, First Aid, LOTO, etc.
  • Line boring certification is an asset.
  • Ability to work proactively with strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and on rotation on remote sites.

Responsibilities

  • Weld and repair metal parts in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Read blueprints to identify welding positions and measurements.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and production standards.
  • Interact with construction equipment and colleagues on site.
  • Follow safety procedures and site rules during all operations.
  • Attend pre-shift and toolbox meetings and communicate effectively.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in welding in a heavy civil construction environment performing.
  • Fall Protection, Power Lines Hazards, Air Brake Endorsement, WHMIS 2015, Utility Safety Training, First Aid, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out Training would be required.
  • Line Boring certification would be an asset.
  • Ability to work proactively and effectively, with excellent organizational and task execution skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of standard Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and practices in the construction industry.
  • Must be able to work on rotational basis on remote sites/camp accommodations.
  • Must be able to work day and night shift.
  • Valid driver’s license or equivalent would be an asset.

Primary work location: Sudbury, Ontario.

Duties:
  • Weld and repair metal parts in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Read blueprints to identify welding positions and measurements.
  • Attention to detail, and compliance with high standards of performance and production.
  • Regular interaction with other construction equipment.
  • Exercise extreme caution with awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of equipment while following manufactures and industry standards in a productive work environment.
  • Attend daily pre-shift meetings and toolbox meetings.
  • Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication (including hand signals) from others and acts accordingly.
  • Other duties as required.
