Bird Heavy Civil is recruiting Heavy Duty Mechanics to join our team. If you are an experienced and qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic, seize this opportunity to work on projects that matter to you and to the communities in which we work.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in heavy civil construction maintaining equipment.
  • Fall Protection, Power Lines Hazards, Air Brake Endorsement, WHMIS 2015, and Confined Space certs are required.
  • Familiar with Safety Instrumented Systems and Cummins software.
  • Ability to work proactively with excellent organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of standard Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements in the construction industry.
  • Must be able to work on rotational basis on remote sites/camp accommodations and day/night shifts.
  • Valid driver’s license or equivalent would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair equipment in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure work meets manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Interact with other construction equipment.
  • Exercise extreme caution with awareness of potential hazards to ensure site safety.
  • Operate equipment safely following manufacturers’ and industry standards.
  • Attend daily pre-shift and toolbox meetings.
  • Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication (hand signals) from others and act accordingly.
  • Other duties as required.

What You Will Be Working On
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a heavy civil construction environment performing regular maintenance duties associated with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, and John Deere construction equipment.
  • Fall Protection, Power Lines Hazards, Air Brake Endorsement, WHMIS 2015, and Confined Space certifications would be required.
  • Familiar with Safety Instrumented Systems, My Komatsu, and Cummins computer applications.
  • Ability to work proactively and effectively, with excellent organizational and task execution skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of standard Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and practices in the construction industry.
  • Must be able to work on rotational basis on remote sites/camp accommodations.
  • Must be able to work day and night shift.
  • Valid driver’s license or equivalent would be an asset.
