Job description

Join the Pioneering Team at Zero Point Cryogenics

We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, even if you do not meet every qualification listed below.

We are looking for a highly skilled, hands‑on welder who takes pride in precision and craftsmanship. This role is ideal for someone comfortable working in a fabrication and prototype environment, who can balance multiple projects while maintaining a high standard of quality.

You will play a critical role in producing specialized components that directly impact the performance of our systems. This position requires both technical expertise and a proactive mindset — someone who is comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with engineering, production, and procurement teams.

What Will You Do

Working closely with our Manufacturing Lead, you will have the opportunity to build some of the most advanced scientific equipment in the world. We expect you to ask questions, learn, be open to growth, and attend technical training as required. Some of your core duties will include:

  • Weld aluminum assemblies together using TIG and laser welding including but not limited to vacuum cans and dump tanks. Most of our welded aluminum assemblies are required to contain helium, which can escape through even the smallest imperfections, so welds must be absolutely leak‑tight. Must successfully complete a pre‑employment aluminum welding coupon test to demonstrate proficiency
  • Welding stainless assemblies together using Laser welding processes including but not limited to microlaser assemblies, pipe, tubing, flanges, and other assemblies as required.
  • Weld aluminum and copper shields.
  • Must be able to independently measure, inspect, and verify their own work using various measuring and inspection tools to ensure all components meet drawing specifications, tolerances, and quality standards prior to release.
  • Be primarily responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their welding booth.
  • Complete shop duties such as setup, organization, inventory management, etc.
  • Use an ERP system (Odoo) to complete administrative tasks, including time tracking, timesheets, inventory, and related data.
  • Read manufacturer’s manuals, drawings, and quality control specifications for assembly procedures.
Preferred Experience / Technical Skills
  • Deep experience and understanding of welding both Aluminum and Stainless Steel.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and specifications
  • Ability to inspect welds for quality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Excellent time‑management and task‑prioritization.
  • Documentation skills to create internal and external documentation relating to your work.
  • Ability to perform daily planning and organizational practices while working with a high‑degree of independence and integrating cohesively within the team.
  • Ability to think critically, think analytically, multitask, prioritize duties, and quickly assume new tasks as required.
Nice to Have / Considered an Asset
  • Welding ticket would be considered an asset
  • Laser welding and micro‑laser welding experience would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency with Google‑based tools
  • Experience supporting process development or continuous improvement initiatives
What Will You Bring
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability for your work
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality components
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn in a deep‑tech environment
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a growing, evolving organization
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support team success
  • Pride in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workspace
Compensation and Benefits
  • Health and dental
  • $750 annual Health Care Spending Account
  • Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP)
  • Flexible Paid Time Off policy
  • Paid statutory holidays
  • Employee‑paid life insurance and long‑term disability benefits
Experience
  • TIG welding: 1 year (required)
  • Laser welding: 1 year (required)
