Purpose:

Working under the direction of the Manager IT and Innovation, this position coordinates, designs and implements all web application and related activities within Osgoode Professional Development (OPD). This includes designing, building, implementing and administering Web sites and web applications. integrating sites with back end applications. coordinating special web-based projects, including creation and maintenance of databases. web server configuration and maintenance.

Education:

University degree in Computer Science or any related field in Information Technology is required or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:

Four (4) years recent related work experience. Experience supporting technology in an academic environment. Experience administering Linux operating system, Apache web server, PHP scripting language and MySQL database server. Experience in creating web based applications and systems from the conceptual stages to production level is required.

  • Web programming languages: PHP, HTML, XHTML, XML, ASP, CSS3, Javascript, JSP , AJAX, SQL, Bash Scripting.
  • Web Servers (configuration and maintenance): Apache (Linux) and IIS (Windows), Microsoft SQL Server
  • Web Browsers: Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari
  • Databases (configuration, maintenance and optimization): MySQL, SQL
  • Application Packages: MS-Office Professional Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel), Moodle, Teamwork (project management), Mindmanager (process mapping), Salesforce, Moneris Payment Gateway
  • Web Development Tools: e.g. Bug Tracking Software, Git, Composer, NPM, PHPUnit
  • Web Authoring Software: Adobe Photoshop
  • Operating Systems: Windows and Linux, Mac OS
  • Frameworks: CodeIgniter, Bootstrap, Semantic UI, JQuery, Sass
  • Web Server Administration: Firewall Rules in Iptables and Ufw, SSL Certificate Installation
  • 3rd Party Email Services such as: SendGrid, Emma
  • RESTful API's, cURL, SAML, Doctrine, XML Web Services, SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol).
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems with experience in developing similar solutions and e-commerce components.
  • Knowledge of W3C and related accessible web design standards and their application. Search Engine Optimization (SEO), AODA Guidelines, Web analytics, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), Google Analytics 4 (GA4) integration, tag/event tracking, conversion tracking, SEO and GEO to support discoverability across search and AI-driven platforms.
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools and practices, generative AI tools for coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and refactoring, prompt engineering, AI/LLM API integration, responsible AI practices related to privacy, security, and accuracy.
