Job summary

The Town of The Pas is seeking an Operator In-Training to provide daily control of water and wastewater operations, ensuring safe and clean water for residents. The role offers hands-on learning toward provincial certification and potential progression to a permanent position.

Responsibilities include monitoring processes, maintaining files, and complying with regulations. Occasional weekend/evening shifts may apply as part of rotating schedules.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 is required.
• A Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License is required.
• Any Certification in the Manitoba Water and Wastewater facility program or 5th class Power Engineering would be asset.
• Strong problem-solving, verbal and written communication for daily reports/logs.
• Attention to detail, record‑keeping and regulatory/safety compliance.
• Proficiency with MS Office and digital reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Maintains water treatment plant, sewage lagoon, water supply wells, lift stations and related equipment.
• Assist in daily operation and monitoring of water treatment processes (filtration, disinfection, chemical feed systems, pumping, reservoir levels).
• Monitor and record readings from control systems and meters using manual and computer record keeping systems.
• Conduct routine checks and inspections of equipment, grounds and facilities for safe operation.
• Performs other related duties and attend training as assigned.
