Job summary

Halifax Water in Halifax, NS invites applications for two full-time Water Quality Inspectors (one regular and one term for up to 13 months) in the Environment, Health and Safety Department. We value diversity and encourage applicants from underrepresented groups.

The inspectors will conduct routine and responsive sampling, analysis, and reporting across source waters, treatment, and the distribution system, and will help investigate water quality concerns.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering sciences with emphasis on environmental sciences, water quality and/or municipal servicing (water, wastewater, stormwater).
• Technical Diploma with 2 years' experience in water quality, chemistry, municipal servicing or related field.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and response water quality sampling, processing and analysis in source water tributaries and lakes, throughout the treatment process and in the distribution system.
• Investigate internal and external water quality complaints and issues and recommend methods for resolution.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for this position include an Undergraduate degree in engineering sciences (or related field) with an emphasis on environmental sciences, water quality and/or municipal servicing (water, wastewater, stormwater); or a Technical Diploma with 2 years' experience in water quality, chemistry, municipal servicing or related field. Along with 3 years practical experience in water quality and quantity monitoring, sampling, research, problem solving, laboratory and field testing and analysis. One must also possess as valid Nova Scotia Driver's License. As part of the conditional offer process, candidates may be subject to satisfactory pre-employment screening.
