Job summary

Kawartha Lakes seeks a Regulatory Compliance Officer to oversee landfill operations, review regulator documents, and ensure adherence to approvals and legislation.

You will help develop SOPs/By-Laws, train staff, coordinate audits, and assist with budget planning, including occasional travel within the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Ideal candidates hold a post-secondary Environmental Technology diploma, 5+ years in a related role, and OACETT eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Environmental Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
  • Must have or be eligible for the OACETT designation (Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists).
  • Experience in landfill operations and compliance management and auditing services.
  • Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy and handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time-management and the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; initiative and quality improvement.
  • Familiarity with municipal policies and procedures; proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prepare responses on documents received by regulators on compliance issues related to City landfill operations.
  • Maintain databases related to information and track analytical results for compliance requirements including support of waste diversion activities.
  • Assist with development and amendment of SOPs and By-Laws relating to waste management.
  • Inspect landfill sites to ensure compliance with all approvals, regulations and legislation.
  • Assist with training, advising and guiding staff in monitoring and compliance auditing duties.
  • Prepare quotes and requests for services related to annual reports and studies.
  • Act as staff resource for landfill public participation committees.
  • Assist in preparation of approval or amendment applications.
  • Receive and coordinate responses to applications.
  • Provide input to divisional budget development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
