Job summary

Silgan Containers seeks a dedicated Forklift Operator to join our Ottawa, Ontario facility. You will operate forklift and clamp attachments, load/unload trailers, and ensure accurate inventory through scanning and paperwork.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to posted rules; requires a high school diploma or GED and ability to lift 40 pounds continuously. A forklift license is required or obtainable.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds continuously throughout the shift.
• Work involves continuous lifting, bending, reaching and twisting.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Forklift in a safe and responsible manner.
• Read and understand all operational and safety rules and guidelines provided during forklift license training.
• Operate both fork and clamp attachments.
• Transport finished goods and raw materials as directed.
• Load and unload semi-trailers and complete/assist with the necessary paperwork and communications as directed.
• Understand and use all scanning equipment required to perform job.
• Maintain and update status of inventory information through scans, written or logged as necessary.
• Lift and carry containers as needed.
• Lift and carry packaging such as pallets, shrink wrap, etc. as needed.
• Communicate in a professional manner with supervisor, coordinators & co-workers as necessary.
• Assist other departments as needed.
• Perform other duties as directed.
• Evaluates and takes appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines.
• Inspect work areas and look for unsafe acts/conditions.
• Effectively use verbal and written communications.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Perform sweeping, cleaning, sorting duties as necessary.
• Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
