Job summary

Flanagan Foodservice Inc. is seeking a Warehouse Leadhand to oversee daily warehouse operations, mentor staff, and ensure accurate order fulfillment and safe handling of products. The role requires coordinating with departments to meet delivery deadlines and maintaining high safety and quality standards.

The successful candidate will drive efficiency, supervise activities, and provide vacation coverage for the Supervisor when needed, while adhering to WHMIS and food safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with various functions in a warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the warehouse team.
  • Train and mentor new employees on warehouse procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ensure efficient and accurate order fulfillment, including picking and shipping.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of orders.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding processes and concerns.
  • Conduct order selecting in all climates (dry, refrigerated, freezer).
  • Operate warehouse equipment including end-rider, reach truck, lift-truck, and tow-motor.
  • Maintain product integrity and prevent damage during transit.
  • Arrange pallets and loads to optimize delivery driver access.
  • Identify and help implement operational improvements.
  • Support upkeep of housekeeping, recycling, and minor maintenance.
  • Follow safety and quality procedures for health, safety, and food safety.

Job description

Under the direction of the Warehouse Supervisor, the Warehouse Leadhand will oversee and participate in the shipping, receiving, and storing of product in the Warehouse. This position is responsible to serve as the lead over one or more assigned Warehouse functions, which includes but is not limited to training, and leading the work for assigned staff in a safe and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the warehouse team
  • Train and mentor new employees on warehouse procedures and safety protocols
  • Ensure efficient and accurate order fulfillment, including picking and shipping
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely picking and delivery of orders
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding job processes and concerns
  • Conduct order selecting in all climates (dry, refrigerated, freezer)
  • Operate Warehouse equipment including: end-rider, reach truck, lift-truck, and tow-motor
  • Ensure products stacked on pallets are prevented from damage, and maintain integrity while in transit
  • Verify loads are accurate
  • Arrange and build multi-customer pallets in sequence to ensure the location of products for delivery drivers is seamless and efficient
  • Proactively identify operational issues, and assist Supervisor to identify and implement solutions
  • Trained and efficient in other warehouse duties including: shipping, receiving, truck unloading, handling returns & customer pickups, restocking & inventory control
  • Support upkeep of housekeeping & recycling, conduct minor maintenance
  • Follow safe and efficient work procedures to meet customer requirements including maintaining a clean and safe environment
  • Complete and keep up to date on all Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality Assurance training pertinent to the role
  • Conduct Health & Safety observations and inspections as per weekly expectation
  • Responsible for reporting any and all concerns related to the Health & Safety, safe handling and integrity of all items received, stored and distributed by Flanagan Foodservice
  • Adherence to all Health & Safety, Food Safety and WHMIS practices
  • Provide vacation coverage and fill in for Supervisor when required
  • A willingness to ensure customer satisfaction
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with various functions with a warehouse environment
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, including but not limited to WHMIS, food safety, and proper lifting techniques
  • Experience operating warehouse equipment including end-rider, reach truck, lift-truck, and tow-motor
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team player, with demonstrated abilities to interact effectively with all levels of associates
  • Solid leadership skills, and a proven ability to encourage, coach, and motivate others in a positive manner
  • Ability to physically lift heavy product on a consistent basis (up to 40 kg) and enjoy an active career
  • Demonstrate knowledge of customer requirements, and/or new client set up, to meet customer expectations
  • Flexible to work the scheduled shift, and support weekends and statutory holidays as needed
  • Internal employees must be employed with the company in good standing for 12 months, with no disciplinary actions on file
