JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the Material Management unit, the Warehouse Attendant is responsible for all warehouse and mailroom duties, including shipping/receiving, kitting, packaging and issuing material, and processing the internal and external mail functions required for Hydro Ottawa and all of its subsidiaries and/or affiliates. The Warehouse Attendant must have strong interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of Hydro Ottawa personnel as well as contractors and external contacts.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:
Shipping
Coordinate the shipment of item(s) through local and international courier providers
Ensure material is prepared for shipping by weighing, measuring and labeling
Schedule and track shipments with service providers, as required
Pack and arrange for appropriate shipping of material for return to vendor or for repair
Receiving
Receive stock and non-stock material
Verify accuracy of shipment by confirming Packing List against the Purchase Order
Note any discrepancies and signs of damage and inform Procurement
Inform requisitioner of receipt of non-stock material
Put away stock material in suitable location(s) in the mailroom, warehouse or outside yard, as appropriate
Transact the receipt of goods and material in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, following appropriate procedures
Kitting and Issuing Stock Material
Prioritize incoming requests for material based on order of receipt or urgency factors
Locate and issue material from warehouse to fulfill planned and unplanned kit requests for material and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Stage issued material for pick up or delivery, as requested
Complete the appropriate form(s) to reflect the issuing activity, noting location changes and stock-outs and any other relevant details
Transact the issue activity accurately in the ERP system
Returns
Arrange transport of return material to appropriate location and verify accuracy of shipment against return order
Note any discrepancies and signs of damage and inform requisitioner
Put away material in suitable location(s) in the warehouse or outside yard, as appropriate
Transact the return of goods and material in the ERP system, following appropriate procedures
Other Duties
Perform daily cycle count, investigate and explain any discrepancies
Relocate material and transact location changes as needed
Perform activities related to garbage, recyclables, and scrap metal/wire/cable/transformers/meters
Assist operational staff/contractors to load/unload material as required
Ensure mailroom, warehouse and yard are functionally organized; kept clean, neat and safe
Ensure all equipment and vehicles are safe to operate, functioning properly and log books are maintained
Secure mailroom, warehouse and yard at end of day or when vacating premises for meetings or emergencies
Visit Operations Centres to verify inventory levels of stock stored on site daily to weekly, as required
Replenish Kanban and Emergency Spares at Operations Centres daily
Operate all tools and equipment required to complete tasks
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma
Minimum 3 years recent and relevant experience in materials handling in a similar warehouse environment
Post-secondary courses relating to materials management or logistics considered an asset
Forklift and other experience with warehouse materials, tools, and terminology considered an asset
Experience with mail and courier systems, equipment and tools considered an asset
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver’s license – Class G as a minimum
Ability to pass Driver Competency Assessment (DCA) testing
English essential; both oral and written
Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
