Reporting to the Volunteer Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients, visitors and staff by building, nurturing and growing the volunteer programs of the Good Shepherd. The role also raises public awareness and builds community contacts and relationships. Your mission is to find the best volunteers who accept and share responsibility for the needs of their community.

How You Will Make an Impact

You will work closely with the Volunteer Manager to oversee and enhance volunteer engagement across Good Shepherd's programs and events. This includes assessing organizational needs, developing strategic recruitment plans, and facilitating targeted outreach to attract volunteers. The role will involve screening and interviewing prospective volunteers, aligning their skills and interests with appropriate roles, and coordinating orientations, placements, and scheduling to ensure seamless integration into our services.

The position requires ongoing support and relationship management with volunteers and staff at all Good Shepherd Centre sites. The coordinator will maintain and expand meaningful volunteer opportunities, uphold program standards, and contribute to the continuous improvement of volunteer policies and procedures. Recognition of volunteer contributions is a key aspect of the role, involving the planning and execution of appreciation activities and events.

Administrative responsibilities include managing and maintaining the volunteer database, generating reports, and supporting communications related to volunteer coordination. The role also entails community outreach through public speaking engagements to raise awareness of volunteer opportunities and the mission of Good Shepherd. This position may require flexibility, including attending events outside of regular business hours, and collaboration with various teams and stakeholders to uphold the integrity and effectiveness of the volunteer program.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Minimum college diploma / certificate in management of volunteers or equivalent.
  • Five years of previous volunteer experience required, preferably in a non-profit setting
  • Strong commitment to volunteerism
  • CPR / First Aid certification and WHMIS training preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast paced and changing work environment
