Job summary

Hatch Ltd. seeks a Vision & AI Applications Engineering Trainee to join the Advanced Automation and Robotics team in Mississauga.

You will develop vision and AI solutions for industrial environments, collaborating with engineers across software, electrical, mechanical, and automation disciplines. You will work on image-processing pipelines, ML models, and hardware interfaces, with opportunities for mentorship and professional development within Hatch's global practice.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD expected by 2027 in a related field.
• Experience with Python or C++ from research or coursework.
• Foundations in computer vision, ML, robotics, or sensor systems.
• Hands-on problem solving evidenced by projects or internships.
• Ability to plan tests, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly.
• Interest in working with hardware and collaborating across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test image-processing pipelines, computer vision algorithms, and AI/ML models for inspection and automation.
• Connect cameras, 3D sensors, robot interfaces, PLCs, and edge computers to software applications.
• Collect, organize, and assess image and sensor data; support annotation, calibration, and model evaluation.
• Build Python or C++ components and interfaces for data exchange and edge execution.
• Design experiments, compare approaches using metrics, and document results and limitations.
• Test integrated systems with robotics and software engineers; diagnose issues.
• Document code, interfaces, tests, and lessons learned for reuse.
