We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment for Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company. The ideal candidate will ensure the systems are reliable, secure, and capable of efficiently supporting business operations.
Your role within the team:
- Design, deploy, and maintain Omnissa Horizon VDI environments, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
- Configure and manage VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter Server to support VDI workloads.
- Implement application virtualization using VMware App Volumes and Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM).
- Manage user profiles, policies, and access controls to ensure a secure and efficient VDI experience.
- Troubleshoot and resolve VDI performance issues, connectivity problems, and software conflicts.
- Have an understanding of the infrastructure components including NetApp storage arrays, HPE server hardware, networking, and other datacenter components required to support a VDI platform.
- Integrate VDI solutions with Active Directory, group policies, and other enterprise systems.
- Implement disaster recovery and backup strategies for VDI environments.
- Monitor and analyze VDI performance, applying optimizations and upgrades as needed.
- Work closely with IT security teams to enforce security policies and compliance requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users, IT teams, and stakeholders.
- Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for reference and training.

The ideal candidate:
- Five plus years of experience in VDI engineering with expertise in Omnissa Horizon.
- Strong knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and NSX.
- Preferred Certifications:
- VMware Certified Professional Desktop and Mobility (VCP-DTM).
- VMware Certified Professional in Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).
- Experience with App Volumes, DEM, and ThinApp for application delivery.
- Experience with cloud-based VDI solutions (e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop, VMware Cloud).
- Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.
- Basic understanding of enterprise-class datacentre infrastructure.
- Understanding of networking concepts such as VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for diagnosing VDI performance issues.
- Proven experience in IT infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of network systems, data management, and IT security practices.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a knack for addressing complex technical challenges.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other IT professionals.
- Ability to multitask and function in a fast-paced environment.
- A customer-centric approach, consistently delivering service that meets and exceeds expectations.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with IT teams and end-users.
- Fluent in English, with proficiency in French considered an asset, ensuring clear and effective communication.
- Eligibility to secure a LEVEL II – SECRET security clearance, demonstrating trustworthiness and responsibility.
- Travel to other offices in Canada and potentially overseas is a requirement of this role.
- Working Conditions:
- May have to lift equipment weighing up to 30 kilos or 66lbs.
- Occasional overtime work on evenings and weekends.
- You may be required to carry a cell phone and provide 24x7 on-call support in rotation with other team members.
